5 AI Tools to Try in 2023 (That Aren't ChatGPT)

Adrian Tuck • Apr 11, 2023

AI tools are all the rage nowadays and tools are springing up everywhere, promising to improve your life and your business at the same time. While AI tools are certainly useful for business, they aren’t going to save your life. There are a myriad of different tools that do things on the market and the level of quality ranges massively.

To help you enter the world of AI, we’ve got our 5 suggestions you should check out. These are all free AI solutions and we’ve excluded ChatGPT because it’s the most popular option and it's been incredibly busy with frequent crashes in recent weeks. While it’s a top solution, it can also be difficult to use due to the high demand and there are other tools out there to try.

Rytr

Rytr is an AI copywriting tool and it’s a pretty good one for free use, though there are limitations on the free model. The tool helps generate articles and other writing quickly and there are a great number of different prompts and ways to generate text. It’s well-optimised for SEO and allows you to set keywords that are fairly well woven into the copy for current AI tools. You can even choose what tone and style you want for your copy. The issue is that Rytr feels quite limited in terms of copy. Quite often, the tool will push out the same prompts, even on a rewrite, and the tone and style options didn’t seem to generate much of a different response. Our usage was fairly limited though so it might be more useful for your needs than ours. Also, please be aware that there is a free plan but the word limit on that plan is fairly strict. Therefore, it’s not the best free solution out there but might be worth playing with and then making a purchase if you like it as the packages are fairly competitively priced.

CopyAI

Designed for short form content, CopyAI can be a really useful AI tool if used correctly. Free plans include 10 uses a month and provides shorter snippet content than full blown blog posts. This is actually quite a nice feature as it allows you to fill out the spine of an article while still making it distinctly your own. This also makes it suitable for social media which I think is where this tool could really come in handy. However, the shorter content might be annoying to some people and if you are using it for social media, 10 credits isn’t going to get you very far for most agencies, though it might be brilliant for a single brand. Still, even if you have to take up the paid option, £50 is fairly reasonable for the amount of options available and certainly more affordable than a lot of tools out there.

DALL-E 2

You’ll no doubt be familiar with the DALL-E line of AI tools used for simple graphic automation designed by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. DALL-E originally arrived on the market with their DALL-E mini version which took over social media as a fun graphic design tool and was most people’s first tinkering with AI. Now, the tool has expanded to DALL-E 2, the newest version of the tool with more image content and available options based on your input and imagination. This is a very fun free tool and the possibilities are huge but I will say that results may vary. While DALL-E can generate some decent looking art, it can also be unreliable and is often more fun to just mess around with than put to any real use. Still, it’s free and it’s always being updated so it could be useful as a convenient solution.

Lumen5

The Lumen5 is a free online video-making platform that has various tools that allow you to make videos effortlessly. It has various templates and formats to use for different social media platforms and the tool is quite simple to use which is a benefit for most video software which can be unnecessarily complicated. The AI tool generates a whole video sequence by including the images using your imported transcript. On the negative side, the tool in its free mode includes a watermark on video content and the templates are fairly limited. Like with many AI tools, this will likely expand over time but right now, it is what it is.

Notion.AI

To finish off, a brief mention of Notion.AI. The popular tool is currently in Alpha development but it looks very promising as a rapid content tool designed to provide a wide range of content as well as help improve collaboration and general work processes. While the tool is currently free, it is currently in Alpha as mentioned and it will likely rise in cost quickly when it actually launches. Also, the tool is currently a waitlist only tool and that waitlist is insanely long. Still, you might as well add yourself to the waitlist to see if you can try out the new tool for yourself and try to get in front of the crowd.

AI tools are rapidly changing the game in modern marketing and content development. The use of AI will make content easier to develop, much faster than usual and reduce the amount of time research takes. However, it is not a replacement for creatives and shouldn’t be seen as one. It’s a tool you hand to creatives to make their lives easier and to help improve their consistency and ability to scale. Brilliant things can be done with AI but someone still needs to be leading it.
